CAFEA has been meeting national wetland stakeholders with the aim of introducing the ALTER project and learning about current and past work within Uganda.

CAFEA has been meeting national wetland stakeholders with the aim of introducing the ALTER project, learning about current and past work within Uganda, and understanding where ALTER can support existing national processes on wetland and the potential for filling in data gaps.

Key national wetland stakeholders have been contacted, interviewed and mapped out, and the findings are being summarised in a forthcoming report. At this level, approximately 25 individuals have been interviewed including the Ministry of Water and Environment, parasitical bodies; that National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), research organisations; Makerere University and the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO), and NGOs; IUCN and Nature Uganda.

CAFEA staff have also inspected the Government soils laboratory (National Agricultural Research Laboratories) as a potential location for soil analysis.

CAFEA has received a lot of support and interest in the ALTER project, with offers of resources and commitments to sharing information and data. Along with national stakeholders, CAFEA has developed dialogue with international organisations, including Wetlands International and a collaborative partnership looks likely for the future.
