In May-June 2014 a household survey was carried out in our three study communities in the Halaba district in southern Ethiopia. The purpose of the household survey was to gather socio-economic information on the poverty/wealth status of households in the area and to see to what degree there is a link between poverty and access to different types of resources, including natural resources and ecosystem services.  The household survey also looked at management practices in relation to soil and land use again with an eye on how this may be linked to households’ levels of wealth. Altogether 358 households were surveyed. The survey will help us to understand patterns in the distribution of resources and how different factors are linked to each other, while our more qualitative work, such as the focus groups, will help us to understand the mechanisms that are responsible for producing these patterns.
