The University of Aberdeen

The Institute of Biological and Environmental Sciences at the University of Aberdeen delivers internationally recognised research into plant/microbe/soil systems at scales from molecule to global using state-of-the-art techniques. It achieved top rating in the 2006 Research Assessment Exercise and soils research is ranked top in Scotland and 2/34 in the UK. The Environmental Modelling Group has a global reputation in modelling greenhouse gas fluxes and soil carbon and nitrogen dynamics. The group includes 2 academic staff, 18 post-doctoral scientists and 10 PhD students, and maintains a dedicated computer-modelling lab.
